- Do I have to be eating gluten to take the test?
- How do I take the test?
- Can I use this test on my children?
- What if the test is positive?
- What if the test is negative?
Yes. The test detects the antibodies that people with celiac disease produce when they consume gluten. At a minimum you must eat the equivalent of two servings of wheat products per day for two weeks before taking the test. If you have been on a gluten-free diet for a period of time, you may need to eat more wheat for a longer period of time to get an accurate test result. If you are eating only the minimum amount of gluten, you may get a false negative test.
All the supplies you need are included in the test kit including a DVD that demonstrates how to use the test kit.
This test is not recommended for children under 5.
The Biocard™ Celiac Test is positive if a red control line appears in the C field and a second dark or light line appears in the T field on the test strip.
If your test is positive, take a copy of this Dear Doctor letter explaining what has happened to your doctor. (click here to download the letter) . Your doctor must arrange for additional tests before you can be diagnosed with celiac disease. You must continue eating gluten until your tests are complete to get a reliable diagnosis.
The Biocard™ Celiac Test is negative if a red control line appears in the C field and no line forms in the T field.
If you do test negative according to the Biocard™ Celiac Test kit, you may not have celiac disease but this is not a guarantee.
If you have been on a gluten free or gluten-reduced diet, you may not have been eaten enough wheat for a long enough time to get a positive test. You may also be a person who does not produce the IgA antibodies required for this test.
If you are still having problems, please consult your physician for futher testing.
