President’s Choice GF Cookie

If you are a fan of the Food Network’s Recipe to Riches television show, you know that this week Sonya Walos’ gluten-free “The Smart Cookie” will be available in stores this weekend. The fact that the cookie was “gluten free” was emphasized throughout the show.

A few people have already asked whether the cookie would be produced so that it was safe for people with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, not just from naturally gluten-free ingredients. In response to an email, the CCA received this response:

Thank you for the inquiry on our new “Recipes to Riches” cookie product. The product labelling does indicate the product is gluten-free. To assure this claim, the product has been made under strict processing conditions. Every precaution has been taken to ensure no gluten containing ingredients are included and all possible cross contamination is eliminated and to meet Canadian regulations. Our supplier must meet a strict standard of operation including meeting general manufacturing practices for ingredient control, product handling practices, sanitation and training.

I’m looking forward to trying the cookies this weekend and I hope that the experience will encourage Loblaw’s and Presidents Choice to produce more gluten-free products.

Rushed out to get these this morning, couldn’t find them in the cookie aisle or where most of the GF food is located. Finally found a staff person who knew where they were, in a special display for prize winners, at the back, near the meat. Bought three boxes and broke the first one open in the car. Great texture and the taste reminds me of a cookie I used to have a long time ago. It’s very sweet (sugar is first in the list of ingredients) and the taste of coconut (which I like) predominates over chocolate. The package is small but not teensy, so a lot better value than most commercial GF cookies at $3.99. I’d call it a success and hope Loblaws will continue to sell it.

Last year when these cookies came out they were in the Super Store (Loblaws) for about 3 weeks at the most. They are the best gf cookies I have ever eaten. They taste just like homemade & I am hoping & praying they will come back & at the same price of $3.99 . I have celiac disease for four years now So please bring them back Thank you. I live in Oshawa.

Tried these PC cookies. Since August when it was determined I had Celiac I have tried many products. These are sooo good I had to double check that I could have them. This is the best thing I have tasted since being on the Celiac diet. I hope PC brings us more of these products.
