Local Chapter Events
Congratulations to our celiac BC Chapter on their Scotiabank Charity Challenge!
From June 2nd to July 5th, the BC Chapter participated in the Vancouver Scotiabank Charity Challenge. This has been an annual event for the organization since 2016 and a major fundraising initiative. Funds raised through the run go towards local projects such as support groups, newsletters, webinars, and educational events and conferences, and allow the Chapter to contribute to critical celiac disease research.
While the event is normally hosted in Stanley Park, the COVID-19 pandemic offered a unique opportunity for participants to take part virtually, allowing anyone across British Columbia to join. The team consisted of 23 runners in total, and the CCA BC created a Facebook group for team members to post photos and engage with one another during their month of fundraising. Weekly challenges kept the participants motivated, with prizes offered from generous local sponsors.
The CCA BC raised over $12,000 from this year’s run. Top fundraisers included Lizbeth Wall, Valorie Vaartnou, Sandra Omichinski, Arica Sharma, and Marian Collins. The BC Chapter wishes to thank them, and all of the fundraisers for their hard work this year! And a special shout out to Sharon David for completing the Threepeat Challenge (she finished a 5K, 10K, AND a 21K race) – an amazing achievement!
