Make celiac diagnosis bloodwork in Ontario free.

Ontario has been the ONLY province in Canada not to permanently cover the blood screening test for celiac disease.

This is despite the tests being part of standard clinical practice around the world. Ontario patients have had to pay anywhere from $60-$150 for the test. For many families, this cost is unaffordable. Not having the celiac blood tests on standard laboratory requisition forms reduces the likelihood of doctors screening for the autoimmune condition which impacts 1 in 117 Canadians.  This cost also impacts the ongoing disease management for currently diagnosed celiac disease patients who are required to monitor their bloodwork on an ongoing basis.

From November 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, a pilot program was launched by the Ontario Ministry of Health covering the cost of blood screening to diagnose celiac disease in Ontario at any community-based laboratory. This pilot has now been extended until March 31, 2023.

Help us make this a permanent program.

There’s still time to get tested.

If you live in Ontario and you think you or a family member may have celiac disease but have not yet been formally diagnosed, the pilot program covering diagnostic blood tests is ongoing until March 31, 2023.
