Print a copy of the checklist and use it to facilitate a conversation with your doctor who will then review the need for further testing.
The recommended blood tests to screen for celiac disease include:
- Total serum IgA level AND
- tTG-IgA antibody (tissue-transglutaminase antibody)
- If a person has selective IgA deficiency, an IgG-based test should be considered.
Please note: It is important to continue consuming a gluten-containing diet before being tested for celiac disease. If the blood tests and symptoms indicate that celiac disease is a possibility, your doctor will recommend a biopsy of the lining of the small intestine to confirm the diagnosis.
If you have already stopped eating gluten, please visit here for the latest Oral Gluten Challenge guidelines .
If your doctor diagnoses you with celiac disease, please encourage your family members to complete this checklist too.
